With the Music Studio you can write your own song, create a note track and add a light show. When you're done you can publish your song for any instrument or full band up to GHTunes. I tested the Music Studio by recreating one of my songs using the Music Studio and it turned out killer, well I think it's killer, haha.

I just learned that on Nov 7th my song will be showcased in GHTunes.

If you own the game, visit the GHTunes/Showcase menu and look for the song; Drop Your Weapon, it should be at the top of the list. Download the song, summon your band of rock stars and let 'er rip.

Also, on November 7th, I'll be posting a link where you can download the stems/tracks to the song for free. With these stems you can remix the song to your hearts desire (creative commons licensing of course) and use it as you see fit, just add my name in there somewhere. I'm hoping some of you will feel inspired to remix, then recreate using the Music Studio and upload the your remix to GHTunes. It would be so cool to hear the creative changes you all have made.

k

Guitar Hero: World Tour

It's AAAALLLLLIIIIVVVVEEE! Sweet baby Jebus. Go get the game and ROCK OUT, Full band styly. We did not hold back. I think you'll love the game. You can play career mode with any instrument, you can have full battle of the bands (your band against another band) and your band can be staffed by people from all over the interwebs. The set list is amazing, I'm not just saying that. If you know me, you know I'm picky when it comes to music and I LOVE this set list. Those are only a few things I wanted to write about here. I've been biting my tongue for months, trying not to give away any details, but now I can speak freely so hit me up with any questions you have about the game or process, anything you can think of.

Don't forget to check out our website: Guitar Hero dot com

You can find the game at all fine plastic instrument purveyors, haha.

k

Call of Duty 4 Tourament

Some of us here at Neversoft have been involved in a CoD4 tournament. So many of us wanted to play that we had to split into two teams, NS Alpha and NS Omega. I'm on the better of the two teams, the Omega's, haha. Unfortunately, Infinity Ward has a team in the tourny and IW made the game. They first played our Alpha team who they beat 3 games to 1 (best of 5). We played them last night and we..........got ANNIHILATED. They beat the shit out of us. 3 up/3 down. We didn't win a single game. They beat us mentally. We were like cockroaches when the lights come on. As soon as the game started I went to snipe as I always do and the other guys splits in all directions, hahaha. We need an after tourny rematch, but I bet they'll still beat us, they're just that good. They're awesome. It's great to play teams like theirs. I learned a lot from watching them trounce us, haha.

I filmed all 3 games (my PoV) + I have 3 games that were filmed via spectator mode. Trust me, you can watch the whole thing. They killed us so quickly the film doesn't last long, DOAH!

I only have the first game uploaded so I'll start with only one link and edit this entry as I make the other links available.

CoD4 StudioBrawl NSOmega vs IW - Game 01

enjoy,
k

Ok now my blog is getting ridiculous. You probably also know that I've been dying to find "reasonably priced" tickets. Well I just received a SPAM from GoTickets.com. Front and center of said SPAM was a link to get tickets to The Police show at the Hollywood Bowl. In my excitement I followed the link which brought me to the list of available tickets and the prices. I was stoked! $90.00 each for tickets was the cheapest they had listed...wow. I thought to myself, "snag em up before they're gone" and nearly did. Then I noticed the row where I would be sitting. Check out the pic.

Yes, the row is PRKG, as in Parking.

Back to your previously scheduled broadcast,
k

GH: Aerosmith Promo Vid

Today Gamespot released the first footage of our upcoming GH: Aerosmith game. About a month ago, sorry about the late post, I was invited to be one of the 30 "special guests" of the Video Games Live concert during the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco. I can't express how awesomely, awesome it was to meet so many fans of the games I've composed for. It was truly flattering. A big thank you to all who came to the show and especially those who stayed until 1am standing in the cold line just to meet all of the "special guests". Of course, the hugest thank you to Tommy and Jack for the invitation and for consistently getting great game music heard by the masses.

During VGL, as we veterans like to call it. I'm just kidding. Well kind of. I mean people do refer to Video Games Live as VGL. I was definitely kidding about the veteran part, then again, if you know me, you already know I'm kidding. So i guess I'm now being redundant...again. Anyhoo, during VGL I got to meet Soren Johnson and I really had to work very hard to not go all fanboi on him. It was kind of embarrassing. If you're not familiar with Soren's work, let me simply say; he is a game design MASTER. Do you know the game Sid Meier's Civilization? If you do then you already know how killer Civ is. Soren improved an already popular design with details that took the game to the highest level of mastery. Civ 3 and, especially, Civ 4 are the pinnacles of strategy game brilliance. So as you can tell I'm a fan. If you're reading this Soren, and if in some alternate universe where two suns and two moons have aligned to shed a double halo of light on an earth-like planet, you just may be...it was nice meeting you and honestly I wasn't drunk, I just happen to slur my words when I get nervous, haha.

So more about GDC, as we veterans like to call it....oh nevermind. GDC is the one time of the year I get to hang with some of my dearest friends. Ian Stocker, who is responsible for getting me into this mess, lives in Oakland and every year generously opens his home to we the wayfarers and like clockwork I arrived, pillow in hand and was taken in. Thank you so much Ian! BTW, I don't snore....that was Bunny, shhhhehe. I also finally got to meet Ian's long time love Mary, who is sooooooo cool! They're a matched pair those two, just perfect. Next on the list is Matt Piersall....SHUT UP! (as in NO WAY!). I don't know who energizes me more Ian or Matt. Ian is always happy in a Zen Buddhist kind of way. Matt is always happy in a Red Bull kind of way. He's unstoppable and I love it. I'm neither Zen nor Unstoppable so as you can tell these two gents have the super powers I wish I had. I've never seen either one of them grumpy or stressed and they both work rings around me...how do they do that? Matt, came equipped with two guys from his shoppe; Kidko and Bela Black. To sum it up...more doods with super powers I wish I had. They were two of the coolest guy I've met to date....not "to date" as in, "hey, what's your sign" but "to date as in "02/20/2008". Not that theres anything wrong with that, thanks Jerry. Unfortunately, DJ Sexidillionaire/Chris24_Sab@ didn't make it this year. Chris we needs ta meet up and catch up.

So now onto board games. During our lunches here at Neversoft there is a group of us who like to play board games. Yes I said board-games. Now I obviously like all kind of games but board games weren't at the top of my list and there is where I made a fatal error. I've been having so much fun playing board games that I've been purchasing the ones I liked most for my collection which is getting obscene. My favorite so far is Last Night On Earth. Do you like zombies? Do you like movies? You'll LOVE Last Night on Earth.

Well that just about wraps everything up. Work is great as you might expect. We're working hard to GH: Aerosmith and some other surprises.

Cya,
k

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

Today we announced our next Guitar Hero release, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.

Game Informer Article - Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

In other news next week is GDC. I can't wait. It's the one time a year I get to see my brothers-from another-mother; Ian, Matt, Chris and Watson. Plus all the cool peeps I know on the GANG and GAF boards. I was going over my itinerary and realized that most of my meetings are after hours at a pub. I’ll be up there with a good friend of mine and coworker Bunny Knutson who will also be part of the Meet and Greet.

It’ll be tough for me to keep my cool and not to be star struck. Check out the link below and see the list of huge composers and designers who will be part of the Meet and Greet. But the biggest guest, in my opinion, will be Ralph Baer, the "Father of Video Games". If any one asks a question directed at me, I’m simply going to say, “Dude! That’s Ralph Baer.” and point to the man beside me, haha.

Dad, thanks for the Pong game all those years ago, I’m about to get to meet the guy who created it, wow!

http://videogameslive.com/index.php?s=sanfran08

Sirius Playlist Search

I just found the coolest link. I don't know how many of you listen to Sirius Satellite radio but if you do, like me, you've probably heard many songs that you wanted to look up later and buy. Unfortunately for me, by the time I get home I forget most of the info about the song like song title or artist and therefore can't snag it off of iTunes. To our rescue comes Dogstar Radio. These guys list all the songs played on Sirius by channel, date and time. Now you don't have to remember stuff...well...ok. You still have to remember stuff like...uh...channel, date and time.

www.dogstarradio.com

Xynergi - audio editing tool extraordinaire

About a year ago I got to play with a prototype computer keyboard that had mini-screens for keys. The demonstrator loaded the keys with various mappings; QWERTY, Pro Tools shortcuts, Ableton Shortcuts, etc. What I took away from the demo was that the technology, even though way cool, was way too expensive and missing the point of audio editing. Mapping shortcut keys to a computer keyboard is a good start but there needs to be more.

...and here it is...

Link to the manufacturer

My Favorite Vintage Sampler/Keyboard

I've loved the Mellotron for years. You'll find Mellotron sounds buried in practically all of my recordings. It's a tough instrument to explain to people. I happened to find this promo video on YouTube and thought I would post it here. Side Note: For some reason the set in this video reminds me of the luxurious caboose interior on the TV show "The Wild Wild West". I half expect Artemus Gordon to show up in a womans Victorian dress and sit down at the Mellotron, haha.

Anyway enjoy,
k

Guitar Hero Demo

Today it became official. I'm never able to keep this blog as up to date as I would like, sorry.

Well I've been somewhat out of commission for a little while but for good reason. I'm currently living in Corporate Housing so generously offered by my new employer. Yes you heard me right, I am no longer an independent composer...I'm now legit, haha. MoonTech will stay open, no worries, but as of July 30th I started a full time gig at Neversoft Entertainment working on their Guitar Hero team. Can you say HELLS YEA?!

It's funny, I'm so used to my day starting at 6:30am and ending around midnight (if I was lucky) yet now I get everything done in a 10 hour time period or less. I don't know what to do once I get home/Corp Housing. I've been filling the time with a lot of guitar practice. I've been burning the midnight oil for over 3 years and in the 3 weeks that I've been at Neversoft I have notice some drastic changes:

Change #1: I'm sleeping better now. Sure for the first week everytime I closed my eyes I kept seeing guitar hero gem patterns. But once that passed I started sleepin' like a baby. Now you might be saying to yourself, "Sleeping better? Of course you would be sleeping better now that your not staying up till after midnight." Ok that does seem a little obvious, but that's my point. We take sleeping for granted and we shouldn't. Which leads me to...

Change #2: My memory is coming back. I thought I'd lost you good buddy (channeling The Skipper). I have the best and worst memory at the same time. I can remember numbers or signal path routings or compressor settings or chord pattern like a champ, but if you ask me what I had for dinner last night I couldn't tell you. I've always been like that. Starting soon after our daughter was born, even the stuff I could remember started slipping. Now with all this sleep I'm getting I can remember so much. I'm doing so well with it I'm nervous. Every morning I look at the clock two or three times very carefully to reassure myself that, "yes, work starts at 9am. It's now 8:15, you're not late, you're fine" and then I putz around for 15 minutes in disbelief that I actually have everything done. Every time I go to lock the door as I leave I feel like I must have forgotten something and yet I didn't. I'm so used to forgetting so many things that I've become accustomed to doubting myself.

Change #3: My mood. I've been a biggest grump for like a year. No really I have. I've been quick tempered, frustrated easily and snotty whenever anyone challenges me. I've been on a year long mens PMS cycle. All due to lack of sleep. It's so obvious now. I should have read the pamphlets they all say the same thing about lack of sleep. So this is the part where I tell you I'm no longer grumpy...ain't gonna happen. I feel it letting up, but I have to admit I did snap back at a friend today when I didn't need to. I'm trying really hard to get that under wraps. It'll happen, I just need more sleep. I'm almost there.

Change #4: I have time for Soccer!!!!!! We just organized a Neversoft soccer team and we have nearly 22 peeps signed up. Which means that I'll finally lose that extra 30 pounds I've been luggin' around. Like all good FC's our first practice will be at a pub after work tomorrow. I'm bring sexy back! But he's a little older and thinning just slightly on top (you can see it at the right angle and in the right light, haha), oh and sexy needs a new wardrobe.

Alright I'm off...good talking to ya.
k

Radiohead's OK Computer was released 10 years ago today in the US

Includes live performances of every song on the album (except for fitter happier of course!)

read more | digg story

PopArp

When I originally created this blog I meant for it to be a place where I could post instrument and effect files, which I have created and used in my own projects, for others to use. It has taken me a while to get around to actually posting something useful but, at last, here is the first of many.

MoonTech PopArp
Info: This is an arpeggiator routed through Live6's Simpler engine with a filter delay on the end. There is a High/Mid range element and a Bass element which you can morph between using the control mappings already setup for: Frequency, Envelope and Bypass/Morph. Simply control-map 3 rotary knobs from an external control surface to PopArp and you'll be ready to go.

How To Install: I suggest creating a User Instruments folder within the Instruments folder in Live6 then simply drag and drop the PopArp file into that folder.

Audio Example: 2am Train

The File: MoonTech PopArp

Feel free to use the instrument in your own music. The only thing I ask is that you throw me a credit if you publish something using PopArp.

Hope you like... Post back with your opinions.

cya,
k

BFH Studios

The guy who created my website just updated his own. Take a look. Brian really is remarkably talented. Look at the diversity, yet his quality remains tops. Look at the alien planets. I think I better start hinting to him to apply as a graphic artist to some game companies. If you're reading this Brian I will be calling you shortly, haha. If you're not Brian and you need a new website or an update to your present website, run, don't walk, to your email client and get in contact with him @ brian@bfhstudios.com.

Free Tom Waits

I know, I know. I'm spend way too much time listening to and talking about Tom Waits, but come on...Tom is unbelievably awesome. Anyway, even against your protests, I'm going to mention Tom once more.

Get em while they're hot (free, live Tom Waits):
Tom Waits Live @ Akron, Part 01
this link is older therefore the free download isn't available any longer, but if you have Audio Hijack Pro from Rogue Amoeba, which I recommend highly, you can record the streams.

Tom Waits Live @ Akron, Part 02

Speaking of Akron, my wife was born there and Tom Waits plays there, this has to be a kick ass kinda town.

In related news:
I want to create a shirt that sez: "f'ing Ribot". Google Marc Ribot, one of my guitar heroes. What a player. He looks at a guitar better than I can, errrr.
